On the 50th anniversary of the composer’s death the I Nationwide Polish Competition of Performers of Karol Szymanowski’s Music for Music Colleges was organized under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and Arts.  The Competition consisted of three categories: piano, violin and singing.

The subsequent competitions comprised of the following categories:

• piano  -  subsequent editions: 1988, 1990, 1992, 1994
• singing -   subsequent editions: 1988, 1989 (program expanded to include the works of M.Karłowicz on the 80th  anniversary of the death of the composer)
• violin – subsequent editions: 1988
