The 100th Anniversary of the birth of the composer was celebrated under the UNESCO patronage.

The state of war thwarted the plans for celebrations and the Board gave up the idea of organizing the festival.
VI Days of Karol Szymanowski’s Music celebration was organized by the Voivodeship Office in Nowy Sącz, the Office of the City of Zakopane and Tatra Mountains Community and the 100th Karol Szymanowski Anniversary Committee in Warsaw.

Światosław Richter’s concerts in Zakopane
1982 was supposed to be the year of elaborate celebrations of Szymanowski’s 100th anniversary, but in Atma we scaled it down to only two concerts worth mentioning.  Both were organized by the ‘regime’ Committee for the 100th anniversary celebration of Karol Szymanowski.  First, on October 3rd, 1982, that is exactly on the 100th anniversary, violinist, Krzysztof Jakowicz performed with pianist Maciej Paderewski.  The actor Tadeusz Malak of Krakow accompanied them. And later, the head  of the committee, Włodzimierz Pospiech, was able to arrange a performance in Zakopane – not for the first time -  of the greatest at the time European pianist, Światosław Richter on the 22 of November, 1982.  A singer, Galina Pisarenko performed with him.  One of the concerts, by invitation only, was in Atma, the second in a hall in ‘Kasprowy’ hotel, where, with Richter, played violinist Oleg Kagan.  The entire team was from the Soviet Union – who, needless to say, unequivocally supported all operations of the Polish government.  Of course attributing any political intentions to Richter would be nonsense.  The fact that, with his grand name, he legitimized the actions of the authorities was a trifle compared to the opportunity to interact with his artistry.
